Mutare City Rovers 1- 2 FC Platinum
DEFENDER Elvis Moyo and striker Rodwell Chinyengetere's goals on either side of the break helped FC Platinum to outplay hosts Mutare City Rovers in an exciting Castle Lager Premiership encounter at Sakubva yesterday.
The Municipality of Mutare owned outfit fought hard to the last whistle, repelled almost all that the visitors threw at them as they gave a much improved display but somehow they could not stop Norman Mapeza's charges from snatching maximum points.
Yesterday's win helped the miners to ease into second position on the latest Premiership log standings.
Even FC Platinum gaffer Mapeza conceded that Rovers played well and had given them a good run for their money.
"If you look at it, it wasn't an easy game. Mutare City Rovers have played well but we came here looking for a positive result and I'm happy we got just that.
"Our focus is now on the next match against Chicken Inn on Wednesday. Otherwise I'm happy for the boys. They did quite well in this difficult encounter," said Mapeza.
It was former Hwange man Chinyengetere who propelled his team into the lead 29 minutes into the match when he took advantage of a lapse in concentration on the part of the City Rovers defenders and shoved the ball home from close range.
A determined City Rovers restored parity in the 35th minute when former FC Platinum top man Stephen 'Dealer' Sibanda headed home off Sam Musimbu's cross.
The home team had a chance to take the lead just three minutes before the break but Sibanda lost balance and slipped in the face of goal after a neat exchange of passes between Russell Madamombe and the former FC Platinum forward.
However, Chinyengetere then sealed victory for the visitors with a clinical finish to a cross from speedy and exciting Warriors winger Marshal Mudehwe.
Mutare City Rovers assistant coach Kenny 'Bokande' Kachara reckoned that his team had been overpowered in the midfield.
"I think we lost it in the midfield where we were clearly overpowered. We also failed to convert numerous chances that we created and this is why we feel that we should hunt for a few midfielders and strikers during this transfer window,' said Kachara.
