Ajax Cape Town reject lands at How Mine

ZIMBABWEAN international Milton Ncube is set to join How Mine if he fails to secure better offers in South Africa after being released by Ajax Cape Town last Friday.
Ncube is still holed up in South Africa trying to secure a deal. He trained with How Mine a few weeks ago and reportedly indicated to the gold miners that he would join them if nothing materialises across Limpopo.
The 29-year-old utility player, who was used as a left-back at Ajax Cape Town, desperately wants to return to action in the hope of forcing his way back into the Warriors squad for the 2017 frican Cup of Nations finals in Gabon.
Ncube was released by Ajax Cape Town together with ex-Highlanders' striker Thomas Chideu and was quoted saying: "I lost my place in the national team because of injuries. The lack of game time at Ajax also didn't help at all; that's why it's important to move to a club where I can start playing regular soccer again."
Ncube can provide How Mine coach Kelvin Kaindu with a number of options, defensively or offensively.
Kaindu coached Ncube at Highlanders between 2012 and 2014 and the Zambian said he was still waiting for the player to make contact.
"Milton trained with us before leaving for South Africa a few weeks ago, but I can't say whether or not he will be joining us because I haven't spoken to him since being released by his club. I know Milton, I worked with him before, he's a fantastic player, but I can't say much until I speak to him," said Kaindu.
How Mine have been hit by inconsistent performance, with the defence being their weakest link.
Former national team players Peter Rio Moyo and Gilbert Mapemba are among players hoping to clinch deals at How Mine during this mid-season transfer window.
Moyo (28) is a former Highlanders midfielder and his contract with South African First Division side Witbank Spurs expired last month. The dreadlocked player has been training with the gold miners for a while and could link up with the gaffer, who mentored him and Ncube during his stint at Highlanders, if he impresses.
Mapemba (30) has been out of contract for a while, with his last club being South African First Division club Moroka Swallows.
Also training with How Mine is ex-Bosso forward Ozias Zibande, who spent last season in Botswana.
Just like Moyo and Ncube, Kaindu coached Zibande at Highlanders between 2012 and 2014 and the gaffer knows his capabilities.
Kaindu joined How Mine at the beginning of the season, signing a three-year contract, whose key result areas are relaxed. According to sources, his mandate is to improve on How Mine's 2015 awful campaign and build a side that will challenge for top honours next season and 2018.
He did not fire any players when he arrived, but is now expected to wield the axe following a first half of the season performance that has seen How Mine going for six matches without a win.
