FORMER Highlanders head coach Bongani Mafu is close to landing himself a job at Botswana Premier Soccer League side Mochudi Centre Chiefs. Mafu, whose most recent post was that of assistant coach at Tsholotsho, will take charge of the club based on the outskirts of the Botswana capital, Gaborone if talks with the club go well.

The 50-year-old is already in Botswana for the club's pre-season preparations. Chiefs took part in the Regent Matebejana Cup at the National Stadium in Gaborone yesterday which also featured Matebejana, Extension Gunners and Black Forrest.

In a telephone interview from Botswana last Friday, Mafu disclosed that he had not yet signed a contract.
However, if he lands the job he will replace Zambian Michael Sithole whose contract expired at the end of June.

"Nothing has materialised so far, the minute I sign a contract you will be the first to know. I have not been appointed by anyone, not yet," said Mafu.
Without giving much details, Botswana Football last Tuesday posted on social network site Twitter that coach Bongani Mafu from Zimbabwe was expected to lead Mochudi Centre Chiefs next season.

Mafu, a former Zimbabwe Saints coach was appointed Highlanders technical manager for the 2015 season to replace Kelvin Kaindu who had resigned at the end of the previous year.

A holder of a Uefa B coaching certificate, Mafu has coached in Botswana before at Gaborone United.
