Highlanders head coach Arol Akbay has reveled that he has been surprised by the resilience of his 'average' players.

When title chasing Highlanders went on a six match winless run, it was ruled out of the title race.

However, all that has changed and Akbay is shocked.

"When I came in February I thought we had exceptional players, but after assessing the team in a few games, I thought maybe we would end the season in position five or six, but we started off well," he said.

"We have players, who have made tremendous improvement in the second half, who include Peter Muduhwa, Rahman Kutsanzira, Simon Munawa and the youngsters Prince Dube, Brian Banda and Adrian Silla. I never expected that we could match this competition, but here we are".

Highlanders is just a point behind current log leader Caps United who have 54 with just three games left.
