Ukrainian team wins Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012 with gloves that can translate sign language into speech

A Ukrainian team, QuadSquad has won this year's Microsoft Imagine Cup student technology competition (and $25,000) after developing a gloves that can translate sign language into speech.

The team beat out 75 other groups that made it to the worldwide finals in Australia where they had to present their projects in front of a group of judges.

The competition's theme was "Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems" and most teams focused on healthcare and the environment.

The Imagine Cup 2012 competition winners were announced today at the Imagine Cup World Festival and Awards Ceremony in Sydney, Australia at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, in front of 106 student teams. The event was the culmination of a five-day celebration of technology, teamwork and innovation.

More than 350 students from 75 countries traveled to Sydney after competing in local and online events, representing the best and brightest selected to compete in the Imagine Cup Worldwide Finals. Cash prizes totaling approximately $175,000 (U.S.) were awarded across eight competition categories.
