The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) is advising members of the public that if, at any various points at the borders, a traveller notice something that is not being done according to the rules, the traveller can tweet to ZIMRA Tweeter his/ her complaint or post it to the ZIMRA Facebook page.

Zimra says touts, commonly known as amaguma-guma or maguma-guma, fleece travellers at ports of entry and exit by resorting to rent-seeking and corrupt activities. Some of these touts are part of corruption syndicates.

Zimra is, therefore, advising the public that it does not tolerate corruption and any illegal activities which destroy the economy. ZIMRA has, thus, intensified its fight against corruption and touting at all its stations.

"As ZIMRA, we do not employ or serve touts at any of our ports of entry or exit. Only genuine travelers with passports will be served. Service is strictly rendered on a "first come, first served" basis.  Please note that it is your right to report to the Station Manager at the respective station if this rule is not being observed. This information can also be reported to the Commissioner of Customs and Excise on the following e-mail address: hkuzvinzwa@zimra.co.zw; or pr@zimra.co.zw; or the Loss Control Directorate on cchihuri@zimra.co.zw," said a statement on the website.

Travelers are also encouraged to post information on the Authority's pages on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ZIMRA.11) and on Twitter (@Zimra_11). In addition, contact numbers of all station supervisors and managers are now prominently displayed at all ports of entry.

The transacting public is urged to seek assistance from Zimra officials and, where services of clearing agents are required, engage the services of registered agents only.  For a full list of registered clearing agents, please visit the ZIMRA website (www.zimra.co.zw), or any ZIMRA Office.
