NetOne to roll out mobile broadband services
20 Jun 2011 at 14:19hrs | Views
NetOne, the state owned mobile operator, today started an advertising campaign for the coming launch of internet services on its network. The adverts promise NetOne is going to deliver "the world like you've never seen or heard it".
NetOne is the only mobile operator currently not offering mobile broadband. Econet and Africom both launched mobile broadband services in September 2010. Telecel opened mobile broadband to the public this year in February.
There's has been talk since the year started that NetOne is working on a broadband offering to catch up with the other mobile operators. NetOne's network coverage rivals that of Econet, the biggest mobile operator in Zimbabwe by number of subscribers, so introducing internet services on their network is a big deal.
There's no information yet on how the broadband services will priced but we assume it's going to be something around what Telecel is charging. Either that or subscribers won't even bother signing up for the services.
