Google is sending out messages to users of the Windows Google Talk desktop app that its services will be ending on 16 February 2015, mybroadband reported.

The search giant says that the IM service will be wholly replaced by the Hangouts app, which is only available through using it's Chrome browser.

The app will cease to function, but users will still be able to access their contacts through Gmail, and third party applications should also still be able to work with your Gtalk details.

Alternatives messaging clients through which you can access your contacts are apps such as Pidgin, Adium and other Jabber-enabled clients.

Google was asked about the notification it sent to Google Talk users, but did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
