Google is to become a new company called Alphabet.

However, user won't have to start 'alphabeting' things to look them up on the internet.

While Google Inc owns many companies (of which the search engine and Youtube are amongst the largest), it's been decided a restructure was needed.

The ever-growing company hopes to separate its web companies from its research and investment divisions.

Alphabet Inc will be the holding company for these non-web divisions and subsidiaries.

In a blog post CEO Larry Page said the change will make things 'cleaner and more accountable'.

'This new structure will allow us to keep tremendous focus on the extraordinary opportunities we have inside of Google,' he added.

Shares in Google rose as much as 5.8 per cent after the Alphabet announcement.
