The Nissan X-Trail Epic Adventure - Once Around Lesotho
15 Aug 2012 at 06:46hrs | Views
Nissan's famed X-Trail compact SUV is again set to prove its mettle as two 2.0 dCi XE 4x2 manual models embark on an epic driving adventure around the Lesotho border. Two teams will embark on the journey in order to experience the X-Trail's fuel efficiency, as well as to enjoy the comfort, practicality and fun that comes with the SUV.
Novice versus expert
In an effort to prove not only how economical the X-Trail 2.0 dCi can be but also to show that "ordinary" drivers can enjoy its low fuel consumption, a "novice" team will be given driving tips which aim to reduce fuel consumption while driving normally â€" as one would in the everyday environment. Ideal conditions will then be explored by the "expert" team â€" fronted by economy run champion Willie Nel â€" who will do everything in their power to use as little fuel as possible.
Nissan X-Trail is the perfect tool for the job
The 2.0 dCi XE 4x2 six-speed manual diesel of Nissan's six-model-strong X-Trail range, offers a great balance between power, comfort, practicality and fuel efficiency â€" on average it consumes as little as 6.5-litres per 100 km on the combined cycle, with carbon emissions of just 171 g/km.
On the versatility side, the generous class-leading boot features a segmented underfloor with drawers for oddment storage and the rear seats are able to fold completely flat. Safety levels are also impressive, with a series of safety and security systems including six airbags, Isofix and ABS (anti-lock braking system) fitted as standard.

The over-1000 km route sees the teams depart Harrismith in the Free State on 16 August and head anti-clockwise around Lesotho, with pit stops in Rhodes and Matatiele and a drive over the highest mountain pass in South Africa - Naude's Nek in the Eastern Cape - before returning to Harrismith on 17 August.
