Bavarian Motor Works (BMW) AG has confirmed that the BMW hot diesel 5-Series, the 550dX, which will be the first car to introduce the German company's new tri-turbo 3.0-liter straight six oil burner, will not wear the "M" badge.
The company confirmed the development and added that the car will get a version be tweaked by its M division, but said that this will not wear an "M" badge.
It seems the M5 diesel project has been canceled due to the face that the xDrive all-wheel-drive system requires a ride height that is considered too generous for M vehicles.
"There are specific reasons why we didn't go with four-wheel drive, one of them being the four-wheel drive system that requires the car to ride higher than existing M models," a BMW insider said.
