Econet, Zimra wrangle: NetOne sucked in

Mobile operator NetOne has filed a Supreme Court appeal challenging a decision by a High Court judge compelling it to bring evidence on their tax clearance record to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA).
The Supreme Court of Appeal has reserved judgement in the case where NetOne is challenging a decision by the High Court compelling it to bring records of their payment of duty to ZIMRA.
The Supreme Court of Appeal ordered Econet which is represented by Mr Tawanda Nyambirai to file supplementary heads of argument by the 23rd of February and further advised Advocate Thabani Mpofu to file his response by the 7th of March before coming up with a final determination.
In their application NetOne represented by Advocate Mpofu is arguing that they cannot be drawn into wrangles between Econet and ZIMRA and are not in any way supposed to be part of the proceedings.
It is alleged that Econet imported goods they classified as base stations and evaded payment of duty.
Base stations are exempted from paying duty in line with government efforts to promote information and communication technology.
However, it is alleged Econet abused the facility and smuggled other goods purporting them to be base stations.
