Econet, NetOne and Telecel ripping off subscribers

The government says mobile telecommunications companies are ripping off subscribers through high charges for mobile money transfer services.
This was revealed at the annual ICTs Achievers Awards in Harare, where the Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Webster Shamu said his ministry is engaging the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe to end he high charges.
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Eng Sam Kundishora said there has been growth in infrastructure penetration, hence the need to continuously invest to ensure high quality services to customers.
Players in the ICT sector walked away with various awards with Econet Wireless scooping the Top ICT Company of the Year while Mukontronics emerged as the Top ICT Company of the Year in the small to medium enterprises (SMEs) category.
Other prizes were the Female Young Innovator of the Year, ICT Project of the Year and Public Sector Website of the Year awards.
