Zoey starts pole dance lessons

Red Angels founder and leader Zoey Sifelani has started pole dance lessons which target housewives seeking to boost their fitness levels and improve bedroom skills.

The Zoey School of Dancing, which is located in Harare's Avondale suburb, started operating at the beginning of this month.

"The idea of opening an 'academy' of this nature came after I had been pressurised by a number of married women who needed some fitness training and bedroom lessons ", said the controversial dancer who has been enlisted by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) to participate in the forthcoming Zimbabwe International Carnival set to begin on May 21 in Harare.

"My debut DVD Meet Zoey was created to help these women but after observing that it was not enough I decided to start the pole dance lessons."

The 26-year-old pole dancer says her novel pole dance "academy" started at the beginning of this month with 10 students.




"Since the 'academy' is still in its infancy, we have just four teachers. I am the one who teaches the students on sensual matters. Students need up to three months for them to be as perfect as we expect them to be in the bedroom".

Sifelani, who is confident her "academy" will give a facelift to the Zimbabwe dance industry, says she was inspired by Oliver Mtukudzi who built the Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton to start her "academy".

"I opened the academy in order to invest in the art industry as well as leaving a legacy in Zimbabwe so as to be a respected artiste just like Mtukudzi," she said.

Harpers Mapimhidze, founder and administrator of the Dancers Association of Zimbabwe (Daz, has praised the initiative by the mother of one.

"I am happy for Zoey and I wish her all the success in her endeavours as she has been striving for a long time to take the dancing to unprecedented levels.

"It is Daz's wish to see Zoey realising her dream and we hope her 'academy' will constantly grow big," said Mapimhidze before describing Zoey as a pacesetter in the local dance industry.
