The president of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe is fast becoming more than a political leader. Recently he released a song called Nhaka yedu and Zimbabwean video producers are also exploiting his image.

Musicians aligned to Zanu PF who use Mugabe to spruce their video footage are assured airplay and they seem to be more than willing to use him.

In some musical videos, Mugabe's old speeches are spiced with guitars, and his image is accompanied by beautiful smiling girls.

True to technological form, his speeches are fast forwarded and for once you could think Mugabe is actually singing.

In another video Mugabe's image is manipulated and he is seen indulged in a game of football together with the images of several other Zanu PF politicians.

In all this, President Mugabe has no control of how he will appear in the video because that power rests on the video's producers.

The producers, who have the freedom to twist and turn the President in various stances to suit their scripts, have been busy creating a character that many homes have come to love and hate.

The international fast food chain, Nandos also released a tongue-in-cheek advertisement depicting Mugabe as the "last dictator standing".

Mugabe is featured as a lonely man in the 46-second advert after the demise of fellow dictators such as executed Libyan strongman, Muammar Gaddafi, former Ugandan leader, Idi Amin and apartheid leader PW Botha.

With Mugabe's rising popularity it's fair to say to the likes of Lady Gaga, watch out, there's a new star in town
