A 32-year-old university dropout "sangoma" (traditional healer) from Slovo Park in South Africa has just married his 62-year-old biological mother claiming that his forefathers had instructed him to pay lobola for his mother.
More than 2000 people are said to have attended the wedding ceremony to witness the wedding of Buti Mphethi , 28, to his mother Francinah Makunyane, 62.
Mphethi paid the lobola of two cows to his mother with a street value of R14 000.
The wedding took place at his mother's home in the same village on Saturday and finished at his home at the weekend.
Mphethi dropped out of his second year studies in sound engineering at the Tshwane University of Technology in 2003 to become a sangoma.
Makunyane told reporters that she never imagined having a 'white wedding' at her age and she was grateful her son married her in place of his father who lives in Burgersfort, Limpopo with his four wifes.
According to the bride the whole process is part of their culture.
