Police in Zambia have arrested four people in connection with alleged murder of two suspected witches whose heads were chopped off.

Western Province Police Commissioner Fanwell Siandenge confirmed the incident, saying the suspects are being held at Lukulu Police Station and are helping police with investigations.

Commissioner Siandenge said police managed to corner the suspects following a tip-off and support from members of the public.

He said they also want to recover the arms the group has been using.

Mr Siandenge said a couple in Lukulu was troubled about the death of their daughter and consulted some family members, who resolved to consult a witch-finder (tsikamutanda).

He said police got information leading to a woman admitting that a family hired some people to kill two old women suspected to have bewitched their daughter.
