The MDC SA Province would like to congratulate the people of South Africa on their just ended elections which have been universally proclaimed as being both free and fair.

It is imperative that we as Zimbabweans begin to learn a number of important lessons from the conduct of these elections.

Isn't it heartening to see the elderly and disabled voting from the comfort of their homes? We have learnt that term assisted voter has a totally different meaning to the one in Zimbabwe where a headmaster claims new found illiteracy when faced with a ballot paper.

Isn't it inspiring to see the levels of political tolerance displayed by all sides campaigning in the election? The fear factor is not used to sway the votes of defenceless and innocent citizens.

We are definitely jealous when we see South African citizens voting from their bases outside the country. In the same week that South Africans are voting in London and Harare our own country is proposing a law that says we must travel to Zimbabwe to express our will at the ballot box.

We continue to be encouraged and inspired by the example set by South Africa. It remains our hope that electoral processes in Zimbabwe will one day produce uncontested outcomes and allow millions of its citizens to make conscious decisions about returning home to their mother land.

Well done South Africa, you make us proud.
