A Bulawayo writer is up in arms against a National University and Science Technology (Nust) student who allegedly plagiarised a copy of her textbook and sold it to primary schools in the city.
The student, Mr Lwazilwenkosi Dlodlo, reportedly reproduced a copy of Mrs Beauty Mpala's textbook titled, Uhlelo Lweziqa Lamabala Umnyaka Wokuqala and sold it as his own and titled it Ulimi to primary school pupils.
Mrs Mpala said she was the writer and producer of the book Mr Dlodlo was selling.
"There is a copy of a book titled Ulimi which is being reproduced and sold by Mr Dlodlo to many primary schools in the eastern suburbs. I want the public to know that I am the writer of the book and that Mr Dlodlo plagiarised it from my original copy that I was still finalising titled Uhlelo Lweziqa Lamabala Umnyaka Wokuqala," said Mrs Mpala.
She said efforts to negotiate with Mr Dlodlo to stop selling her book has proved futile.
"I asked Mr Dlodlo to meet me in order to settle the matter but he did not come, instead he continued reproducing the book and selling it. I then reported the matter to the police. When I met him at the police station he admitted being guilty and agreed that we will settle the matter between the two of us.
"I felt sorry for him seeing he was a student and withdrew the case," said Mrs Mpala.
She said Mr Dlodlo had failed to honour the agreement terms that they had negotiated upon last year.
"In November 2012 we agreed that Mr Dlodlo stop re-producing my book and selling it. He was also supposed to reimburse me a sum of $350 for plagiarising my book but however he has since disappeared," said Mrs Mpala.
Contacted for comment, Mr Dlodlo said he was still looking for the money to compensate Mrs Mpala.
"We talked in the presence of elders and agreed that I would look for the money and pay her. At the moment I do not have it. I was supposed to reimburse her the money she had used to hire lawyers for the court case that she ended up withdrawing.
"The problem is I took some of her quotes in the textbook and failed to acknowledge them," said Mr Dlodlo.
