Zanu-PF Secretary for Legal Affairs and incoming legislator for Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has reiterated that his party is ready to fulfil promises and commitments made during the election campaigns.
Speaking at his victory celebrations in Bush Valley in Kwekwe on Sunday, Mnangagwa said Zanu-PF had remained committed to transforming people's lives for the better by initiating people-centred policies.
"Words fail me to express my profound gratitude to the people for taking heed of President Mugabe's call to vote for Zanu-PF in the July 31 elections. As Zanu-PF we are more than grateful.
"Now that the people have defended the nation's sovereignty as well as its heritage through the ballot, it is our duty as a party to make sure that we fulfil all the promises that we made before the elections. Be rest-assured that Zanu-PF will deliver," he said.
He said Zanu-PF had the mandate to reciprocate the gesture by the people to vote for the party in the recently held harmonised elections where it garnered well above the two-thirds majority.
Mnangagwa also urged the people to complement the efforts of the revolutionary party in empowering the people in transforming their lives for the better. "While Zanu-PF is going to honour its commitments, we as the people must not always wait for the Government to initiate developmental projects. We must complement Government efforts to develop our own communities," he said.
Mnangagwa said people should take advantage of local resources to transform their lives for the better. He said people must embrace empowerment programmes such as the land reform and the indigenisation and empowerment programmes.
"Zanu-PF initiated people centred programmes such as the land reform and the indigenisation and empowerment programmes. We must benefit from these initiatives," he said.
Meanwhile, Zanu-PF young turks say they will take the baton from their leaders who spearheaded the land reform programme and lead the country towards economic independence and empowerment of the masses.
Rushinga MP-elect Wonder Mashange said the struggle for total independence is a process not an event which should be carried out continuously. "We have a challenge to continue with the legacy of the party's revolution. We would like to see a black man enjoying the fruits of the liberation struggle and appreciate the legacy of the liberation struggle.
"The fusion strengthens the party. There is no longer a generation gap. We thank the party's leadership for allowing the youths to participate," he said.
Chegutu West MP-elect Dexter Nduna said the young turks are going to be development-orientated with a bias towards youth empowerment.
"We want to resuscitate the factories and mines which were closed as well as revamp infrastructure in schools. We are also targeting hospitals as well as other Government enterprises. Our thrust is to liberate the economy. We want to make sure that our communities benefit from the country's natural resources before the world.
We can only use our resources to enhance efficiency and to empower our people since we are a land locked country," he said.
He said the people of Zimbabwe have spoken and they know which party to support adding that the 2008 vote was a protest one. He said Zanu-PF did not just promise Zimbabweans but implemented some of the programmes before and during the campaign period.
Hurungwe West MP-elect Temba Mliswa said Zanu-PF embarked on the land reform programme when it had the majority in Parliament and the programme laid a firm foundation to build upon. "We look forward to complete the programmes we started.
Indigenisation is an important programme which needs checks and balances. There should be scrutiny to ensure it is in line with the party's manifesto," he said.
