A church elder from the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe has dragged to court more than 20 pastors who presided over proceedings that expelled him from the church.
Tenias Brian Chitimire lodged his papers at the High Court seeking the nullification of the January 31, 2015 elections that ushered in Dr Aspher Madziyire as the AFM Zimbabwe president.
Chitimire contends that Dr Madziyire's election by 26 reverends was null and void as it violated the church's constitution.
Chitimire, who is represented by Matsikidze and Mucheche legal practitioners, argues that the gathering which conducted the election was not AFM's Workers' Council as provided in the constitution and the delegates who set in the meeting were unqualified to do so but just made their own rules.
He seeks a court order declaring Dr Madziyire's election null and void, and an order interdicting the 26 reverends from running AFM affairs, arguing that they are operating outside the dictates of the law.
