The Chinese government has been commended for aiding Zimbabwe's health sector following its recent deployment of 14 medical doctors to the country's biggest referral hospital.

The Chinese doctors who arrived three weeks ago have been deployed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

The medical practitioners carried out a medical outreach programme where they gave free consultations and treatment to hundreds of patients at Long Cheng Plaza in Harare on Saturday.

Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Lin Lin said the Chinese medical team outreach programme is aimed at complementing government's efforts in Zimbabwe's health sector.

The Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan province Miriam Chikukwa commended the medical outreach programme, adding that it should be extended to the high density suburbs where the majority of the underprivileged people reside while Acting Principal Director Curative Services in the Ministry of Health and Child Care Dr Maxwell Hove hailed the programme for helping those without the means to pay for health services.

Earlier this year, China gave Zimbabwe a $100 million loan facility for the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment for improving health delivery.
