Acting President Emmerson Mnangagwa  has suggested that he is struggling to get hold of his boss, President Robert Mugabe who is in China.

Mugabe, 93 next month left the country late December for his traditional month-long annual leave.

Mnangagwa told mourners at former Mashonaland West Governor and Resident Minister Peter Chanetsa funeral on Tuesday that he 'tried' to speak with Mugabe.

"I tried talking to the President this morning and will talk to him again later today," Mnangagwa is quoted saying without elaborating whether he did speak with Mugabe.

"He is in China" he added.

Mugabe has taken his holidays in the Far East since being shut out of western capitals in a row over his policies and allegations of electoral fraud and human rights abuses.

Although he denies murmurs about serious health concerns, the veteran leader often travels to Singapore for medical treatment.
