The Christmas season is upon us once more, this is the time when most of us get the chance to down our tools and spend time with family and friends.

It is a season of joy, a season of good cheer and goodwill to all mankind, Christmas is indeed a time of giving and forgiving. We all have something that we can give or give up for the betterment of our fellow citizens.

The Christmas season signals the near end of the current year and the pending birth of the New Year. It therefore affords us the chance to reflect on the current year, on all the good as well as the ills. It affords us the chance to once again lament the passing on of comrades, family and friends who did not make it to the end of 2011; we remember our party's late Vice President Gibson Jama Sibanda and many more of our departed comrades. Whilst memories of some of these deaths open up wounds that have not yet healed, the Christmas season is a season of hope.

It is in light of this, that we hope for a better tomorrow, we hope for a rebirth of all the values and virtues that separate us as a people from the rest of the world, a tomorrow where justice and fairness are practiced as enshrined in our constitution, a tomorrow where every Zimbabwean can stand up tall and proudly declare that they belong to this great nation, a tomorrow which will see every Zimbabwean benefitting from his or her country's resources.

We need an end to violence, we need to see an end to selective sharing of our wealth, and we need to see a transformation of our economy and general well being of our people for the better. We need a change; the people of Zimbabwe deserve a change.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish every Zimbabwean, at home and abroad, a peaceful and merry Christmas filled with love and harmony, let us continue to celebrate our diversity as we herald a prosperous New Year, that will be pregnant with CHANGE, JUSTICE AND FAIRNESS allowing us to fully CELEBRATE OUR DIVERSITY.
