A political commentator Vince Musewe has told former Industry Minister Nkosana Moyo who declared his interests to stand as an independent candidate in the 2018 presidential race that Zimbabwe needs to focus on removing President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF so that democracy should prevail in the country.

Moyo recently said he is considering contesting as an independent in the presidential race next year.

"Dr Nkosana Moyo is allegedly still pondering on whether to run in 2018 Presidential elections as an independent. I do get his point that political parties promote patronage in government and this leads to incompetents being appointed more for loyalty to the party than based on their abilities and competence to deliver," said Musewe.

"This remains Africa's curse and I just don't know what we have to do to get rid of this culture. We certainly need a President who puts country and not party first. Whether this is a good enough reason to split the vote I don't know. I still think that 2018 to 2023 must be a transformational period where we transform our government it's institutions and it's culture before we can have new criteria. We must focus on voting Zanu PF and Mugabe out. That is so critical."
