Mugabe must stop blaming Zapu and Zipra for Gukurahundi

An Ex Zpra cadre Max Mkandla has rapped former President Robert Mugabe for blaming Zapu and Zpra for the Gukurahundi massacres which he committed through the fifth brigade soldiers in 1980s.

Mugabe recently in an interview with local and international private media said Gukurahundi can also be blamed on Zapu and Zpra for having created dissidents who were the reason why soldiers were deployed to Matabalelenad and Midlands to weed our the renegades.

But Mkandla said "former dictator Mugabe who deserted Zapu in 1975 straight from prison to join Zanu where he introduced one centre of power and became first secretary general of the party holding two positions at a time must never try to hide behind his finger.

He said his recent remarks can not go un challenged and he must be reminded to revisit the Gukurahundi when it was crafted before independence in 1979 as he was planning to settle scores with late Vice President Joshua Nkomo of Zapu and wrestle power from him.

He said after independence Mugabe held meetings with the top security sector in a plot to destroy people in Matabeleland in the pretext of hunting for dissidents. He said Mugabe then sent a crack force which indiscriminately killed even the unborn babies with their mothers having their stomachs ripped open. Mkandla said Gukurahundi had more power than the Zimbabwe National army as it wasa a special force for Zanu.

"It was a political arm of Zanu. The purpose was to crack on arms cache but it proved to be targeted on innocent citizens. It was not killing Zapu members or Zpra alone but the most affected were innocent and unarmed citizens," he said.

"The current regime must handle Gukurahundi issue with great care as it will one day in future explode to something very bad for those who are suspected to have committed it."

He said the fact that those who are believed to have highly contributed to the killings like President Mnangagwa and Mugabe seemingly to be unrepentant and refusing to apologise means that there are a lot of bad things that will happen to their kith and kin even if they are dead because of the manner they are handling the matter.

He blasted Mugabe for accusing Mnangagwa's regime to be unconstitutional yet forgetting that Gukurahundi which violated people's lives in the region were highly inhuman than just him losing power to Mnangagwa.
