The trial of Moses Mzila-Ndlovu, co-Minister in the Organ for National Healing, Reconciliation and Integration facing allegations of addressing an unsanctioned Gukurahundi meeting opens Tuesday at Hwange Magistrates Courts.
The Trial failed to kick off as scheduled on 15 February 2012 after public prosecutors initially failed to locate the case's docket. Public prosecutor Blessing Tshabalala only managed to locate the docket in the afternoon, forcing the case to be postponed to April 24.
The Welshman Ncube led MDC deputy secretary General was nabbed at a road block by police last year in April in Lupane on his way to Victoria Falls where he was supposed to address a national healing meeting.
Mzila-Ndlovu (58) is being charged with making false statements that are deemed prejudicial to the State at a meeting organised by Roman Catholic priest, Father Marko Mabutho Mnkandla, to commemorate victims of the Gukurahundi.
Mzila-Ndlovu, who will skip a cabinet meeting is accused of making false statements about national healing concerning Gukurahundi perpetrators at Silwane Primary School, during a memorial service.
Posting on his facebook page, Nhlanhla Dube, MDC national spokesperson "Tomorrow on Tuesday April the 24th. 2012 in Hwange at the Magistrates Courts Minister Moses Mzila Ndlovu goes on trial for speaking out on the need for National Healing and Reconciliation and openness on the issue of Gukurahundi atrocities. We all stand by him and say....Akula okubi okwenzileyo QHAWE labantu!!!."
A former freedom fighter, Mzila-Ndlovu, is an outspoken critic of President Robert Mugabe and his Gukurahundi campaign in Matabeleland and Midlands in the early 1980s.
More than 20 000 civilians died in the operation and government has never endorsed debate on the issue.
