Former Zipra intelligence supremo and Zapu president Dumiso Dabengwa yesterday described the conferment of national hero status on Retired Lieutenant-Colonel Chilisi Bhuka Ngwenya six months after his death as another example of how Zanu-PF undermines the role played by Zapu in the liberation struggle.
Ngwenya died at the age of 63 at a Bulawayo hospital on Christmas Day after a short illness and was buried in Plumtree.
Dabengwa said Zapu members would soon embark on an exercise to record names of all those they feel deserved to be honoured but were neglected by Zanu PF.
Ngwenya was part of the first cadres to join the liberation struggle in the 1960s alongside the late Retired General Solomon Mujuru.
He underwent military training in Tanzania and returned to Zambia in 1969 before being sent to Russia for further training..
