Bumper crowds at Chief Khayisa Tourney

An estimated crowd of 1200 people attended this year's edition of the Chief Khayisa Ndiweni Memorial Sports Tournament.
The tournament is an annual event held in Ntabazinduna area of Umguza district in celebration of the life of the late paramount Chief who died two years ago. MDC President Welshman Ncube is the sponsor of the tournament.
The 2012 edition held on 13 August 2012 attracted a total of 22 teams, a hundred percent increase from last year's 11.
Speaking on behalf of President Ncube the MDC Youth Assembly Secretary General Mr. Discent Bajila said "We are glad to meet once again celebrating the legacy of that great man. It is important for us to keep meeting and united as a people as this was one of the late Chief's consistent messages. It is also important for us to keep working for the development of our communities just as Chief Ndiweni did in developing this area into what it is today."
"We congratulate Willowgate Netball club for becoming champions for the second time in a row. We further congratulate Wozana for lifting the soccer trophy ahead of last year's winners Zulu Chief's. As a community you continue to give us encouragement to do more. Thus, on behalf of the sponsor President Ncube who could not be amongst us today, I pledge further support for the 2013 and future editions. Yours is to keep inviting more teams and strengthening this celebration of that great life.", Bajila said.
The tournament whose run-up to the final was spread over seven months attracted eight netball teams namely Willowgate the champions , runners up Manchester , Wozana, Globetrotters, Zulu Chiefs, Burning spear, Magumeni and Bombay. The fourteen teams that participated in the soccer tournament are the Champions Wozana, runners up Burning spear, Flying Stars, Ntabazinduna, Magumeni, Tough Tigers, Willowgate, Globetrotters, Hilltop, Bombay, Swallows, former Champions Zulu Chiefs, Green Eagles and Bubi based Bafana Bafana.
The top four teams in each of the disciplines walked away with prize monies, soccer balls and kits while the other lower teams got playing balls and tokens of appreciation. The champions each got an additional floating trophy.
The tournament was also attended by Headman Khumalo and other members of the MDC National Executive namely Secretary for Sports, Arts and Culture who is also local Councillor Kimpton Sibanda, Youth Organisaing Secretary Celani Ncube, Women's Organising Secretary Annastatcia Chikuni, Youth Secretary for Training and Political Education Andrew Nyathi, Women's Deputy Secretary for Training and Political Education Monica Ncube, National Council member Theresa Kabondo and Bulawayo Youth Spokesperson Khumbulani Malinga.
