MDC Alliance MP Joanah Mamombe and six other party activists including Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova yesterday successfully applied for postponement of their matter where they are accused of violating COVID-19 regulations.
Their case was further postponed to July 5 by Harare magistrate Stanely Mambanje, after they requested for more time from the courts to compile the necessary papers for their trial.
The other activists are Obey Sithole, Makomborero Haruziviishe, Lovejoy Chitengu, Obey Shava and Stanley Manyenga.
Their lawyer, Alec Muchadehama told NewsDay that he needed to be served with all the necessary papers before the trial.
"Today we have applied for the postponement of the matter in which Mamombe, Chimbiri, Marova and four others are accused of violating COVID-19 regulations during a demonstration in Warren Park last year," Muchadehama said.
"July 5 is a good date for us as we hope that we will be well prepared for the case," he said.
The MDC activists are being accused of holding a demonstration in March 2020 during a time when President Emmerson Mnangagwa had announced stiff COVID-19 lockdown regulations.
Muchadehama said the seven would be tried together.
