Housebreaking syndicate burst

POLICE in Bulawayo have arrested two men that have been terrorising residents in the western suburbs by breaking into houses and shops stealing property.
Honest Moyo (18), of 2206 Makokoba and Mpilo Mahlangu (31), of 8603 Pumula East were arrested on Thursday last week when police received a tip-off from members of the public.
Moyo and Mahlangu committed the offences between February and this month in Gwabalanda, Pumula and Magwegwe suburbs.
They broke into premises at night using bolt cutters to gain entry and stole property comprising of clothes, furniture and groceries.
Moyo and Mahlangu were convicted on their own plea of guilty to unlawful entry into premises, theft and trespassing when they appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Maphios Moyo yesterday.
They were remanded in custody to tomorrow for sentence.
On 3 February, Moyo and Mahlangu hatched a plan to go on a housebreaking spree and broke into a tuck-shop belonging to Ms Pelagia Marufu in Gwabalanda.
They used a bolt cutter to break into the tuck-shop.
While inside, the two stole 50 loaves of bread, two crates of eggs and NetOne recharge cards with a combined value of $92. Only property valued at $8 was recovered.
On 12 March, Moyo and Mahlangu went to Mzila Butchery in Pumula East, which is owned by Mr Johannes Sibanda of 22783 Pumula South and gained entry through the roof.
While inside, the two stole 20kg of beef, chicken and a butchery knife all valued at $185.
Property valued at $100 was recovered.
Moyo and Mahlangu proceeded to Mr Thembinkosi Nduna's shop in Magwegwe North, trading as Airtime Shop on 28 March at midnight and used a bolt cutter to cut open roofing sheets.
They stole tinned fish, beans, packets of sugar, cigarettes and different kinds of groceries with a combined value of $120 and nothing was recovered.
On the same night, the two broke into Ms Ashlylene Bhebhe's house in Magwegwe North and stole a bucket valued at $35.
Moyo and Mahlangu on Good Friday also broke into Mr Sam Moyo's kitchen in Pumula East through the window and stole a coffee table, four cellphone handsets and clothes valued at $250 and property worth $230 was recovered.
On 11 April, Moyo and Mahlangu returned to Mr Sibanda's shop in Pumula South where they cut security bars using a hacksaw to gain entry.
They stole cellphones, bricks of cigarettes, soft drinks, washing powder, crates of eggs, lotion, boxes of pens, compact discs, electrical gadgets and different kinds of groceries all valued at $600 and all was recovered.
