THREE people died on the spot when an Isuzu KB they were travelling in veered off the road and rammed into a house in Nketa 7 suburb in Bulawayo yesterday morning.

The three men were reportedly coming from a bar in Nketa where they had been drinking.

Three men who were in the house were injured while a tenant escaped unhurt.

Two rooms of the four-roomed house were damaged  as well as property inside.

The destroyed property included beds, television sets and utensils.

When a Chronicle newscrew arrived at the house, neighbours were flocking to catch a glimpse of the damaged house while the tenant, who survived, was weeping.

The tenant, Ms Edinah Chibaya, said the incident occurred at about 2am.

"We were sleeping when I heard my landlord's sons screaming for help. When I woke up I discovered they were trapped inside the room they were sleeping in. I rushed to call neighbours to help as I no longer had the energy to lift the wall that had collapsed on them," said Ms Chibaya.

Mr Arnold Dube, one of the brothers, said he sustained chest and leg injuries.

"I was sleeping in the other room when I heard a loud bang from the room where my two brothers were sleeping. I rushed to see what was happening and saw that a car had crashed into our lounge.

"I rescued one of my brothers and had to search for the other one whom we could not see. We found    him covered in bricks as the wall had collapsed on him.

"We rushed him to the United Bulawayo Hospitals as he was unconscious but when I left he had woken up," he said.

One of the neighbours, Ms Julius Toyiwa, said the curve near their houses was a dangerous spot as a lot of cars rammed into pre-cast walls.

"There is a need for the city council to erect humps and signs along Goldridge so that motorists are aware of the curve ahead of them and reduce speed. We are tired of always rebuilding the pre-cast walls because of reckless drivers who crash into our houses," he said.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the incident.

"We received information that three people were killed on the spot while three others were injured when a vehicle crashed into a house," said Insp Moyo

He said the injured were taken to hospital and discharged.

"We urge motorists not to drive while under the influence of alcohol to avoid unnecessary loss of lives," he said.
