The MDC party led by Professor Welshman Ncube says it will send in its application to the Constitutional Court next week despite ZANU PF's failure to turn up for the principal's meeting in Harare on Friday.
In an interview with Radio Dialogue on the sidelines of the party's rally in Cross Dete on Saturday, the party's secretary general Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga said the stance by ZANU Pf was regrettable.
"The next step we are going to do our own application. The MDC-T is also doing its own application. Our understanding is that all the parties should bring in their applications by Tuesday and the hearing will be on Wednesday," said Mushonga.
Mushonga further fired a broadside at ZANUPF for their insincerity in complying with the Constitutional Court directive that the Justice Minister consult the other coalition partners.
"Clearly one can see that they (ZANU PF) want Chinamasa's application to stand because it is bound to fail."What they want then to do is to say to SADC, we did as you said but if the courts denied our application then there was nothing we could do," Mushonga said.Mushonga said this was the latest tactic by ZANU PF to make sure that elections are held on July 31 and not by August 14 as suggested by SADC.
She added: "The problem with ZANUPF right now is the factional fights. There is a faction that wants elections by July 31. We don't believe that everyone in ZANUPF wants elections now, its clearly a faction. Unfortunately the President is being held hostage by that faction."
ZANUPf pulled a no show at the state house on Friday when principals from the three political parties their chief negotiators and their legal teams were supposed to map the way forward on the electoral amendments and poll date after the SADC resolutions.
In a statement released on Friday, MDC national spokesperson Nhlanhla Dube said this attitude was typical of ZANUPF and that they hoped this was not a tactic to render the SADC resolutions unachievable.
