THE Bulawayo Community and ZANU-PF supporters yesterday thronged the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Hall 4 to celebrate the recent appointment of Eunice Nomthandazo Moyo as Minister of State for Bulawayo.
The office of governor was abolished under the new constitution. However, the President appointed Ministers of State responsible for provincial affairs.
The event was graced by the Senior Minister of State, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo, who was also guest of honour, Zanu-PF Central Committee members from Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association chairman Jabulani Sibanda and the business community.
Addressing party supporters who graced the event Ambassador Moyo said it was a unique day commemorated only by achievers, given that the party had romped to victory over the opposition on 31 July.
He said although the African set-up denigrates the girl child opportunities were now accorded to women and the Minister of State for Bulawayo Province had shown this through the position she had acquired.
"This is a special day for achievers and all those who cherish and celebrate achievement. Failure is never celebrated and no achiever is, however, a lone ranger. Achievement is a product of a supportive environment, precisely the family.
"In the African traditional society the situation is worsened by the attitude on gender bias. The woman and the girl child were for many years the most affected, particularly in the field of education.
We must avail life opportunities to the girl child leading to equal life opportunities. This has been shown by the achievements of Moyo, " he said.
Ambassador Moyo went on to say Moyo's achievement was through discipline and upright behaviour and this had seen her rise through the political ranks, and hold a position that not many women could manage.
He praised the Minister of State saying she was a God-fearing woman who would continuously achieve, through maximum support from the Bulawayo community and supporters of the party.
"Achievement generally calls for discipline and principled behaviour, and the conclusion of the matter is that you must fear God, just like our new Minister of State. She deserves maximum support from all of us," said Ambassador Moyo.
Ambassador Moyo said the revival of Bulawayo industries would be spearheaded by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and unity would be the only key in bringing back Bulawayo to its glory days.
"The revival of Bulawayo Province is a Government initiative and the President is at the forefront of making sure that this will happen. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce is at the centre of the action. Together we will not fail and I am appealing for unity of purpose if Bulawayo is to return to its glory days," he said.
