Zanu-PF Bulawayo Province is in a state of crisis after it emerged that members are fiercely resisting the imposition of Professor Callistus Ndlovu as the chairman, contrary to the party's constitution.
Already two members Joseph Tshuma and Simon Khabo who had filed their papers to take part in the provincial chairmanship race have withdrawn their candidature, Radio Dialogue reported.
The elections are set for 23 November and other members have said they will resist the move by the incumbent Prof Ndlovu to retain his post without going through an election.
Members are accusing the party's election directorate of violating its constitution.
"We will not accept it. Its elections and elections have to take place. What the senior leadership is doing is very wrong and it cannot be accepted," said a party member.
"I am not a candidate neither I am participating in the elections. They (province) wanted me to retain the post," he said.
It is the contention of the provincial executive that Prof Ndlovu has brought stability to the party.
However, Killian Sibanda who is also contesting dismissed the stance and said senior members were not being honest.
"They are lying but to Prof Ndlovu will shall meet in the election ring," he said.
