A BULAWAYO woman yesterday begged a magistrate to order her husband to show her his payslip claiming that she has never seen it in her 16 years of marriage.
Phathekile Ndlovu of Nkulumane dragged her husband Nicholas Mpofu to the maintenance court and demanded to see his payslip.
She said: "He has never shown me his payslip but I am his wife. He does not give me any money yet he is employed as a teacher," she said.
She accused her husband of dumping her at their rural home.
"He forced me to stay in the rural areas while he remained behind with our three children in town. I look after our homestead in Inyathi but he does not appreciate my effort or send me any money," she said.
Ndlovu said her husband was also not taking care of the children's needs.
Magistrate Victor Mpofu quizzed the seemingly embarrassed Mpofu on why he was denying his wife access to his payslip.
In response he said: "She is lying because I provide for the children. I am the one who stays with them in the city and I do everything for them."
Magistrate Mpofu ordered him to show her the payslip so that she could read the amount he earns to the court.
When she was given the payslip, Ndlovu seemed lost prompting the magistrate to order Mpofu to show her his net salary.
"Show her the amount you earn, you should be a responsible man and show her your salary. You should give her part of your salary and if she does not want to stay in the rural areas you should not force her," said Mpofu.
He then ordered Mpofu to pay $50 maintenance every month.
"She will only apply for a variation upwards if she lives with the children. At the moment you will give her $50 for her own needs while she is in the rural areas," he said.
