ZAPU gags Dabengwa

Opposition party Zapu has reportedly muzzled its leader Dumiso Dabengwa, a veteran of the 1970s liberation war and former cabinet minister, from speaking on Zanu-PF succession.
Dabengwa, then known as the Black-Russian and head of Zapu's intelligence division under Joshua Nkomo, would have been a front-runner to take up the vice-presidency had he not decided to break-away and revive the party in 2009.
Asked who he thought should be the next vice-president of Zanu-PF and the country, Dabengwa refused to comment.
"I am not at liberty to comment on that. It would be tantamount to interference in the affairs of another party," said the former Home Affairs minister.
However, The Zimbabwe Mail claims it has it on good authority that Zapu's national executive council (NEC) met in Gweru two weeks ago and resolved to bar its leadership from commenting on the matter.
Zapu's national secretary for information Mjobisa Noko confirmed the resolution had indeed been passed.
"We met in Gweru and the party's NEC resolved that we should not comment on Zanu matters, we agreed to ditssociate ourselves from that issue. Zapu is working hard to be in government after the next elections and concentrating on the Zanu fights is not one of our strategies," said Noko.
