SOUTH African stars from the popular television soapie, Muvhango; Gabriel Temudzani, popularly known as Chief Azwindini; Rami Chueme, who plays the role of the dramatic Kgomotso and Humbulani Tsharani, Mulimisi, the quiet and reserved traditional healer, are in Bulawayo.
The trio arrived at Joshua Nkomo International Airport aboard a South African Airways plane yesterday at midday and will be in the city until tomorrow.
They were invited to attend the Family Voices acapella group album launch concert which was held at the Family of God Church auditorium last night.
In an interview, the three stars said Bulawayo was a peaceful and laid back city which was relaxing compared to South African cities.
"As compared to South African cities, Bulawayo is calm and laid back. Since this is our first time in Bulawayo, we had different perceptions which we should say have been put to rest. The city is beautiful, even though we have only seen a portion of it. The people here are kind," said Temudzani.
The three, who run different projects and businesses in South Africa, also said the general perception fashioned by Western countries that Zimbabwe was a hostile and poor country, was a delusion.
"This is a beautiful place. What is told out there and what is happening here are totally different. The people here are very peaceful and happy. Bulawayo in particular, which is home to Ndebeles obviously because of history, is beautiful," Temudzani said.
Rami, said she was delighted to be in Bulawayo, as she had always travelled to Harare on business.
"Every other time that I travel to Zimbabwe I will be on business and I only manage to go to Harare. I am happy to be in Bulawayo and hope to see and create new friends," she said.
Rami, a well-established multi-talented artiste and businesswoman, revealed that she had been working on an album which will be released in October.
"I will be releasing my album this year in October. In the future, I hope to work with Zimbabwean artistes. Family Voices are a remarkable group and possess an extremely unique talent," she said.
Humbulani, who is reserved, as is his character in the soapie, said he was humbled by the city.
"It is heartwarming to be well-received, the way we were. This is a beautiful place," he said.
The trio said they had been invited to appear as special guests at the album launch, as they had established good ties with Family Voices group.
"We first met the group in South Africa where they were performing at a church we had been invited to attend. They gave an exquisite and fabulous performance, which our producers said was mesmerising. After that they were then invited to appear on one of the episodes by our producers. Since then we have been in good relations," said Rami.
Family Voices is an all-male acapella group made up of eight singers. The group has performed at various events across the country and has received stunning reviews from all their performances.
They are believed to be one of Bulawayo's, if not Zimbabwe's, best acapella groups.
