HIGHLANDERS Football Club striker - Obadiah Tarumbwa's daughter is reportedly not going to school as he has defaulted in paying maintenance for her.
Court records show that Tarumbwa has failed to pay $200 monthly maintenance for his two children with his ex-wife Patience Tarumbwa, 28. On March 19 this year, Justice Nokuthula Moyo ordered him to pay $200 as maintenance for the upkeep of the children aged 14 months and five years.
Obadiah, the court heard, paid the amount once, in April.
Patience Ndiweni, accompanied by a friend, yesterday told The Chronicle she had since requested a garnishee order at the maintenance court.
She said she was tired of phoning Obadiah over the money which he knows his children need.
Her friend said: "His daughter who is supposed to be at school is sitting at home because the father failed to pay fees and their 14-month-old son has asthma and he fails to pay medical bills."
"He is seen in night clubs and fast food outlets while his kids are suffering because he has neglected his duties as a father. He put his ex-wife through a lot of emotional stress because of his infidelity during their four years of marriage and continues to stress her as he fails his children," she said.
Patience said: "It's unfortunate that in all of this, the children are the ones that get to suffer and I believed that he would always be there for the children especially considering the fact that I was his wife and not someone he had an affair with".
Tarumbwa is scheduled to appear at the maintenance court on July 2.
Reached on his mobile phone, he declined to comment, demanding to know who had told The Chronicle the story.
"Who told you that? Do you want to write the story?" he asked before hanging up.
The pair divorced when Obadiah cheated on Patience with a friend.
Obadiah's illustrious soccer career includes stints with Bulawayo giants Highlanders between 2000 and 2008, Belgium's Cercle Brugge, Bantu Rovers (Zimbabwe), Enosis Neon Paralimni (Cyprus), APOP Kinyras (Cyprus), Ermis Aradippou, Sofapaka (Kenya), and University of Pretoria F.C (South Africa).
