ZANU PF Matabeleland North province plans to embark on a door- to-door follow up campaign on firms that pledged to donate towards the party's annual conference set for December this year.

Over 6 000 delegates are expected to attend Zanu PF's annual conference slated for December 7-13.

The party needs close to $3 million for the event.

the state firms, depending on their financial state, were given a directive to donate $25 000-$30 000, while ministries with revenue-collecting parastatals such as the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) and Zimbabwe National Roads Adminidtration (Zinara) were ordered to chip in with as much as $300 000.

The party's Matabeleland North provincial structures have been sending letters to various companies soliciting for donations, beginning last week.

Matabeleland North Zanu PF provincial chairperson Richard Moyo said the party was targeting to raise at least $100 000 towards the hosting of the conference.

"We have our fundraising dinner on Saturday that officially kick-starts the fund-raising drive in the province," Moyo said.

"We have a $50 000 target, but we want to raise at least $100 000 as the host province.

"We have sent letters to companies seeking donations and we will be making follow-ups on them from next week."

Recently, the party held a national fundraising dinner in Harare which was snubbed by most firms.

The dinner dance was attended by politicians and company executives mostly from parastatals, with the cheapest table for 10 going for $10 000, while the most expensive table was pegged at $100 000.

The Corporate world's response to the fundraising dinner was tepid, as parastatals and other companies failed to fill the platinum tables.

This reportedly prompted organisers to fill the platinum table with companies that paid $50 000 and $30 000 to avoid embarrassment, with some companies paying as little as $5 000.
