MDC calls for De-siltation of Matabeleland Dams

Matabeleland South MDC Chairman Pilate Ndebele has called for the government to provide funds for the De-siltation of most of the dams in the province saying villagers and their livestock always have water problems during winter because the dams are filled up with sand and can not keep water for too long.

Ndebele said though the rains are starting to fall now, water will be wasted as the dams will just let water pass because they are already filled with sand.

"The government must come up with programmes which will see the dams being dug up again to remove sand that has filled them," he said.

The rains have started falling and most parts of Matabeleland are always affected by drought hence a need for the construction of dams.
