The ruling party's National Political Commissar Saviour Kasukuwere says he is pleased with the voter turnout in the Mhondoro-Mubaira primary election to choose a party candidate to replace Sylvester Nguni who was expelled from the party last year.

The primary election held this Sunday saw five candidates battle it out for the sole ticket to represent the ruling party in the Mhondoro-Mubaira parliamentary by-election set for  the 5th of March.

The five candidates are Kenias Shamuyarira, George Gangarahwe, Alexio Mutyambizi, Elison Simbanegavi, and Nyarai Chasi.

Zanu PF Mashonaland West vice chairman Keith Guzah said initially the list had seven candidates but two of them withdrew from the race.

Kasukuwere said the voter turnout for the primary election was good and he attributed the high turnout to the party's restructuring programme which ensured appropriate organs were put in place.

The results of the elections are expected late this Sunday.

The Mhondoro-Mubaira parliamentary seat fell vacant following the expulsion from Zanu-PF and subsequent recall from parliament of Mr Sylvester Nguni for belonging to the Mujuru cabal.
