YOUTH Development and Indigenization and Empowerment minister Savior Kasukuwere has kept "a long distance" between him and Zanu PF youths who were arrested for invading some buildings in Bulawayo.
In fact he has told the youths to find a "lawyer" because he cannot "interfere" with police work.
The Zanu PF youths (four of them) were arrested at number 3 A Main Street and Masotsha Ndlovu Avenue and at 3rd Avenue and Main Street.
They had invaded city buildings in the name of indigenization and youth empowerment.
Their actions come hard upon Kasukuwere's "ranting" about empowerment and indigenization, said a Zanu PF provincial member who requested anonymity.
Youths who spoke to this publication said when Kasukuwere was called yesterday at night about the arrests he arrogantly said:
"I am not a lawyer, so you don't call me comrade, to ask me to go and interfere with police investigations.
"Taurai nemalawyer and update me tomorrow, then we will see what to do," the abrasive youth minister is alleged to have said.
Zanu PF has done a chaotic land reform program and with its indigenization drive, it has through Kasukuwere incited its members to break the law and invade factories and other buildings in the city and nationwide.
The youths who invaded buildings in Bulawayo did so thinking that they were going to get special police treatment of "letting them do their thing" but they got it all wrong," said a civic society activist Dumisani Moyo.
Bulawayo youth leader, Butholezwe Gasti said when contacted for comment:
"We are still investigating what really happened, we have spoken to Cde Lesley Ncube about this but he was busy in a meeting, I will talk to him again latter today and we shape the way forward," he said.
Lesley Ncube is Zanu PF's youth secretary general.
When asked about what Kasukuwere said about the arrests – Gasti said:
"He was busy. He said we must look for a lawyer and call him again."
Efforts to get a comment from Kasukuwere were fruitless as he did not answer his mobile phone.
