Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri has been urged to speedy arrest Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere over residential stands scandal or citizens risk taking the law into their hands within seven days.

Kasukuwere has been accused by President Robert Mugabe of selling stands meant for Zanu-PF youths.

National Vendors Union of Zimbabwe chairperson Sten Zvorwadza said the police must take stern measures against corrupt government officials.

"As Zimbabwean citizens, we are deeply concerned about the high levels of corruption by government and ruling party officials which have seen the majority of Zimbabweans wallowing in abject poverty while high ranking politicians loot national resources for personal aggrandizement, " he told the media after being barred from delivering a petition at Harare Central Police Station.

"We thus implore the Zimbabwe Republic Police, as law enforcement agents, to act without fear or favour in bringing culprits such as Saviour Kasukuwere to book over their corrupt activities.

"We would like to remind you that corrupt activities by Saviour Kasukuwere have become an issue of concern to the Head of State and Government, President Robert Mugabe who personally confronted Kasukuwere during a Zanu-PF Politburo meeting last week.

"We thus implore you Commissioner General of the ZRP to act and investigate the issues raised by President Robert Mugabe against Saviour Kasukuwere after which we expect to see him being arraigned before the courts.

"We are deeply concerned that over the years, there has been so many allegations of corruption being leveled against government and ruling party officials yet no action is taken against them and as concerned residents, we would like to warn that if the ZRP fails to investigate and arrest Kasukuwere within the next seven days, we will not hesitate to exercise our constitutional right to protest against the lack of action by the ZRP in fighting high-level corruption in Zimbabwe.

"We would like to put it to you that citizen arrest is one of our options in the event that the ZRP fails to act and arrest Saviour Kasukuwere. We need to see the ZRP walking the talk as far as ending corruption in the country is concerned," he said.
