Tsvangirai is the remaining trusted and tested candidate
01 Dec 2016 at 00:35hrs | Views
MDC-T supporter Tinashe Eric Muzamhindo has said judging by events that are taking place in the opposition politics in Zimbabwe the MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai remains the face of the opposition.
He said Tsvangirai has his own weaknesses but he is a better and more reliable candidate.
"2018 is a crucial election in Zimbabwe, it's a do or die game given the context that Zimbabweans are going through a lot. The economy is shrinking and it shows that something is missing in Zimbabwe. We need a long lasting solution. 2018 elections must bring closure to the issue of legitimacy in this country," he said.
"The truth of the matter is that people cannot risk to give their votes to people whom they don't even know. Who initiated those talks? Who gave them the agenda? Who defined the parameters of the talks? We need serious people. I would like to believe that those small parties such as the PDP, RDZ, MAVAMBO, ZAPU, MDC NCUBE, those parties are there to bring confusion to the anticipated coalition talks. People need to show what they have on the ground, how much numbers do they have? Do they have structures on the ground? We don't want people who will waste our time, let them line up their pockets with allowances from those workshops or talks but the truth of the matter is these are irrelevant parties which are meant to divert people s minds from the real issues."
He said Tendai Biti is a good lawyer not a good politician.
"We have no doubt that if Biti comes in as a Finance minister or Justice I tell you that Government will be a very strong Government. Biti cannot be a leader in his own style. He is too emotional, we need a neutral and self-composed leader who is inclusive. Judging by events which took place during the split no one can trust Tendai Biti with the keys of State House," he said.
"There was so much drama during the MDC split and much problems were centred on Tendai Biti who was leading behind the scenes, he should have waited for his turn if he wanted to be a leader. We need a leader who is more of an inclusive approach, who does not insult people or his leaders, and who is more tolerant. Zimbabweans have been wounded so much they need someone who is more tolerant, inclusive. The way he insulted Tsvangirai after the split means a lot for Zimbabweans. Even if your elders are wrong, you cannot insult leaders, we need a leader with respect and a person of integrity."
JOICE MUJURU AND PEOPLE FIRST
Muzamhindo said Joice Mujuru while she is appreciated in her efforts to join opposition politics her contribution is very crucial towards 2018.
"Mujuru can't be trusted with the keys to State House for now. Mliswa was a lesson for many Zimbabweans. Where is Mujuru coming from? Where was she all along? There are so many unanswered questions which will make it difficult for people to allow Mujuru to lead the coalition. Mujuru does not have structures in a single ward or district, how then do we trust her to lead when we are left with 16 months to go for a crucial election? Mujuru does not have a party now, and now that her Zanu Pf regalia is still wet and still very new, we can't trust her with a leading role. She needs to be examined first and she must respect people s views during the coalition talks. Premature pronouncements which she made that she want to lead the coalition will leave many with unanswered questions. She must humble herself," he said.
"The very people without numbers, misguided elements, people who are seeking relevance, people who are eyeing posts, people with the aim of looting state resources when they enter into Government are the ones who are bringing confusion. The people who will vote are Zimbabweans. There is no reason to have talks in South Africa, whilst we have so many places to have talks here in Zimbabwe. These are the people who are desperate for power and they know that they don't command a following. These small parties like PDP, ZAPU, MDC NCUBE, MAVAMBO, and RDZ must learn to admit that they have failed in politics and they should have unconditional support over Tsvangirai s candidature."
The supporter said Tsvangirai should lead and Mujuru must deputize him.
"If a coalition is to go by, we need better candidates who must bring something on the table. The only two remaining figures which are popular in Zimbabwean politics are Tsvangirai and Mujuru if anything is to go by. For now Zimbabweans must rely on these if a coalition is to take off. Politics is a game of numbers. What Tsvangirai and Mujuru needs to do is to play their matrix very well and see which strong holds should Tsvangirai field candidates and which areas should Mujuru field candidates for the watershed 2018 elections. Here are the following proposals which will make Zimbabwe work again," he said.
He proposed that the coalition framework should be structured as follows:
Manicaland Tsvangirai should field candidates
Midlands Tsvangirai should field candidates
Masvingo Tsvangirai should field candidates
Mash central Mujuru should field candidates
Mash East Mujuru should field candidates
Mash west Mujuru should field her candidates
Mat North Tsvangirai should field candidates
Mat East Tsvangirai should field candidates
Bulawayo Tsvangirai should field candidates
Harare province Tsvangirai should field candidates
