Kwekwe Central legislator Masango Matambanadzo today received temporary reprieve after the prosecution indicated it will pursue the charges against the legislator by way of summons.

Supporters for Matambanadzo went into celebration upon hearing news that the state has developed cold feet in pursuing its cases against the legislator.

Matambanadzo is facing charges of insulting a senior police officer causing public nuisance and damaging Council property worth US$71 after he allegedly unlawfully authorised the use of a bus terminus for vending which the Council had shut down.

Mr Liberty Mashangare one of the lawyers representing the legislator confirmed in a telephone interview that the state will proceed by way of summons as the prosecutor required time to go through the cases.

An ecstatic Matambanadzo told his supporters he is prepared for any persecution for as long as he ensures those who erk out a living through legally acceptable means such as vending are given their rights and respect.

The legislator will now wait for the state to put its house in order and summon him when they are ready to proceed to trial.
