Joosbi Omar wins Zanu-PF primary for Mwenezi East

Joosbi Omar has won the Zanu-PF primary elections for Mwenezi East constituency and will now represent the party in the forthcoming by-election expected to be held in April.

The Mwenezi East seat fell vacant last December following the death of the National Assembly member, Joshua Moyo.

This Wednesday, the ruling party held primary elections to choose a candidate who will battle it out with candidates from other political parties in a by-election set for the 8th of April.

13 candidates took part in the primary elections with Omar emerging victorious after gunning 5901 of the 11 986 votes that were cast.

Zanu-PF National Deputy Commissar, Omega Hungwe, who was the Elections Retaining Officer announced the results in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Speaking after his victory, Omar said he has already started ground work to ensure that Zanu-PF of wins in the by-election.

"I am very excited. I have tried before to stand for this election but lost. Now that I have won this time around, I am ready to work for the people," he said.

The Nomination Court for the by-election will be convened at the Masvingo Magistrates Court on the 17th of this month.
