Zanu PF romped to victory in the Mwenezi East parliamentary by-election after securing over 18 000 votes, with the other parties getting less than 500 votes each.

The ruling party's candidate, Joosby Omar secured 18 700 votes, while his two rivals, Mr Welcome Masuku of the National Constitutional Assembly, and Mr Turner Mhango of the Free Zimbabwe Congress, received 482 and 386 votes respectively.

The election results were announced by ZEC Mwenezi Constituency Elections Officer, Mr Charles Daswa.

The voter turnout for the by election was 41,9% with 652 spoilt ballot papers.

The seat fell vacant in December last year following the death of the member of the National Assembly, Joshua Moyo.
