Zanu-PF divided over Chinx

Zanu PF kept the family of fallen liberation stalwart and musician Dickson Chingaira guessing yesterday with President Robert Mugabe's lieutenants deeply divided and dithering on his hero status.
The veteran musician and war veteran Dickson Chingaira who died on Friday last week at a city hospital, has been declared a liberation war hero. Zanu-PF secretary for administration Ignatius Chombo, last night said in conferring Chingaira liberation war hero status, the Politburo considered his contribution to the nation.
Popularly known as Cde Chinx, the iconic musician passed on at West End Hospital in Harare.
He was 61.
Harare province had written to the party recommending national hero status for him.
The diminutive musician who has received endorsement from opposition and pro-democracy groups, a rarity in the current polarized political environment inspired the freedom fighters through his musical prowess during the protracted liberation struggle.
