A 41-YEAR-OLD prophet of an unnamed apostolic sect in Kuwadzana was ordered to perform 350 hours of community service for accusing another man of witchcraft.
Elisha Mutema suggested that Leonard Sasa is a witch and has 'a red snake' that killed his wife.
He made the revelations during a memorial service of Sasa's wife and in the presence of his family members.
Mutema pleaded guilty when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Tafadzwa Miti charged with indicating witches.
He was initially sentenced to 12 months in prison before two months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
The remaining ten months were suspended on condition he performs 350 hours of unpaid work at Kuwadzana primary school.
Circumstances are that, on March 12 Sasa was at his place of residence having a memorial service for his late wife before a misunderstanding arose between him and his family members.
The misunderstanding led to a prophet, Mutema being called.
Upon arrival Mutema indicated that Sasa was in possession of a red snake and was responsible for the death of his wife.
He ordered everyone to wash their faces with some holy water so that they could be able to see red snake.
It was proved that the people failed to see the snake and Mutema demanded US$80, which he said he wanted to use and travel to Chiweshe to get material for removing the alleged red snake.
He was offered transport but he refused it and left Sasa's house without removing the alleged snake.
Sasa then went and a lodged a complaint with the police leading to the arrest of Mutema.
Kholisani Mangena represented the State.
